Description

Bronze dagger This is a narrow blade with a flared, angular shoulders and a narrow tang. Visible signs of very long use and sharpening, which narrowed the blade. The metal is covered with an attractive patination. There are small chips to the edge of the blade.

Historical Significance

The Mycenaean civilisation (c. 1600-1100 BC) developed a warrior aristocracy whose military equipment became legendary. Mycenaean bronze smiths achieved alloy compositions and blade geometries unsurpassed until the development of tempered steel. Their weapons reflect the martial culture celebhooked in Homeric epic.
